Dehesa de Olmeda de Cobeta meadow

Among the villages of the Alto Tajo region there are numerous environmental and cultural values. One of the least known is the Dehesa de Olmeda de Cobeta meadow. This is a magnificent set of century-old pollarded oaks with the pruning shift lost several decades ago.

The former dehesa of La Olmeda has a medieval origin, is dominated by robust specimens of holm oak and gall oak and has several copies of Singular trees. In these same trees it is possible to see the recurrent pruning to which they were subjected in the past, known as pollarding, which is the cause of the peculiar shapes that these specimens have.

The dehesa has two well-differentiated areas depending on the density of trees that can be observed: one eminently of a forgotten agricultural usewhich appears practically treeless, and another exclusively livestock one, called "Dehesa Boyal".

A walk through this forest reveals the echoes of history, which are embodied in the archaeological remains and the traces that different civilisations have left in their wake. In fact, the path that we can follow through this beautiful pastureland ends in the celtiberian castro from Peña Moñúz.

<< How to get there?

To get to know this spectacular group of more than singular trees, we have to go to the town of Olmeda de Cobetaand from there you take the track (Calvario Street) until you come to a crossroads, where a path leads off to the right, which is signposted on a large blackthorn tree next to the path. From here we recommend you get lost in the pasture and go as far as the Castro de Peña Moñúz to contemplate the spectacular views of the valley from here.
