Source of the River Guadiela

Very close to the town of Cuenca of Iron Cavealready known for its fantastic roman mineIn the upper reaches of the Tagus river, we find one of the most important river sources, we are talking about the Guadiela, a 115-kilometre river that currently forms the Buendía reservoir and flows into the Bolarque reservoir. It is one of the main contributions from the entire basinIt has been said in the area that "the Tagus carries the fame, but the Guadiela carries the water".

To get to know the first steps of the Guadiela, we have several options, the best of them being head to Cueva del Hierro where we can park without any problems and from here we can take the footpath PR CU 05 that reveals this beautiful place to us.

Right at the source we will see a small hut that (we believe) serves as a well. This construction is right in the middle of the first drops of our Guadiela. It is located in an area at the foot of a mountain This has created a small, humid and green valley with several springs where, in the rainy season, it must be a spectacle to see the water gushing out. It should also be noted that we are at an approximate height of 1400 metresThe Guadiela must therefore be considered a large mountain river.

At the time of our visit, all the emergencies that we found close to the main source were inactive, so it will be worthwhile to see this beautiful area after a good and rainy spring.

Finally, very close to the source of the Guadiela river, there is a area where we can make a stop along the way, or where we can take our vehicle to spend an afternoon in the shade of the pine trees. We can also walk to the source, even if we have to undo the way to the crossroads where we find a small bridge that crosses the newly born river and from here we can walk to the river. take the official path which leads us to the spring itself.
