Elms of Solitude

The Olmos de la Soledad are the remains of two ancient elm trees, located on both sides of the road. hermitage of La Soledad in the town of Lebrancon. As we can see, these are two large stumps that belonged to two beautiful trees, 9 and 10 metres in diameter respectively, which once had their branches and canopy which offered good shade to the walker.

The uniqueness of these two specimens lies not only in the diameter of their trunks, as this tree species used to have a formidable size, but also in the legend that accompanies one of these specimens.

Both specimens were victims of the graphiosis which almost wiped out this species throughout the Iberian peninsula, a terminal disease of elms caused by a fungus that disperses its spores by means of small beetles that reproduce inside the elm.

To visit these specimens and be amazed by their size and silhouette, we have to go to the locality of LebranconOnce inside the village, continue along the path that will take you to the hermitage itself.
