Pozo del Soto

Between kilometres 41 and 42 of the Cm-2015, very close to the locality of Villanueva de Alcorón some time ago, an attempt was made to open a mining operation of Albian kaolins. However, the holding was located over an aquifer The very shallow area, which was perforated during the extraction works, caused the mine to be flooded, turning it into a permanent reservoir. This mine, which is now a lagoon, is very close to the Pozo del SotoThe aquifer water is tapped from the aquifer.

The resulting lagoon is about 40 metres deep, and its permanence has turned an arid area into a beautiful landscape where we can take a walk around it, perfect for bird watching, such as the little grebe and sandpipers in migration.

Nowadays, apart from being a tourist destination or a refuge for animals, this water spring is used by the people of the village who develop some kind of industry, as they feed themselves from it.
