Rocha or "del Campillo" Dam

This former hydroelectric power station of La Rocha is located in the vicinity of the Campillo tobáceo building, just downstream from the well-known Cascada del Campillo waterfall. It is one of the old barriers that are close to disappearing, as one of the main objectives in conservation is to return rivers to their original course, whenever possible.

To access it we have to take the road that takes us to the Casas del CampilloFrom here we start to descend until we reach the dam itself. On the right bank we can see the water almost up to our feet, and on the left we can see the well-known emerald lagoon, thanks to its transparent turquoise waters.

The dam is a typical civil engineering construction that does not stand out for its own sake, but for the beauty of the landscape where it is located, and which it has partly helped to create. Here, we can enjoy one of the places of exceptional value for the sighting In spring and summer you can see: golden eagles, peregrine falcons, Egyptian vultures and griffon vultures, and during the winter it is not unusual to see grey herons, cormorants and ducks.

Furthermore, if we look at the ground in the area of the dam wall, it is not uncommon to find droppings The area is undoubtedly one of the favourite spots for the local avi-fauna due to its tranquillity and difficult access.

Finally, to complete the visit to the La Rocha dam, it is a must to visit the Campillo Waterfallone of the most spectacular tuffaceous waterfalls in the world. Natural Park.
