Refugio del Pozo Cornejo

The refuge of Pozo Cornejo is an old construction of the ICONAToday we can use it as a free-access shelter and it has two different areas, both with fireplaces, although one is much smaller and cosier than the other.

Today, it is the residents of Peñalén those who maintain this shelter, as it is a place where popular picnics are held.

In the vicinity of the shelterare the trough and the well from which it takes its name, the last time we visited it, it was overflowing with water.

Very close by, walking through the old pine forest, we find several specimens that could well be classified as monumental trees due to their size and longevity, such as the famous seven-clawed pine (from Peñalén).

To get to the refuge, take the track that you will find once you have climbed the curves of the town, just after leaving the last one and at the top, on the right is our path. We must continue straight on, ignoring any detours to the right or left, until we see the refuge in the middle of a large esplanade.
