Serrezuela de Valsalobre

La Serrezuela de Valsalobre, as its name indicates, is located in the municipality of Valsalobrein the province of Basin. With a surface area of 734.5 ha, it was declared a natural monument since 2003. It is located at the culmination of a molar formed by carbonate materials from the Cretaceous and JurassicThe materials in the massif have favourable characteristics for dissolution. These materials give rise to karst patterns, of great importance both inside and outside the massif.

La Serrezuela de Valsalobre is the place in Spain with the highest concentration of chasms. It is therefore considered to be of major speleological interest. If you walk around the area, you will often come across speleologists, and here you will find two of the deepest caves in the whole of Castilla la Mancha, Juan Herranz I and Juan Herranz II, commonly known as "Las Juanas". Their respective depths are 121 m. in the case of I and 173 m. in the case of II. Other significant ones whose depths exceed 60 m. are the Z-3 and Z-6 chasms, both 96 m. and the Alfa I and Alfa II with 85 m. the former and 60 m. the latter.

Within the Serrezuela we can find areas that can be considered as "Enchanted Citieshighly recommend the call "Labyrinth of the Serrezuela".. As always, when we walk through areas like this, special attention should be paid to where we step, especially if we go with children or pets, if the necessary precautions are not taken.

Very close to the Serrezuela de Valsalobre, on the border with Gudalajara, we find the beautiful village of Peñaléna natural balcony that will leave you in awe.

The dominant plant formation is the pine forest of Pinus sylvestris, and Pinus nigra The shrub stratum consists of a spiny fringe of Berberis vulgaris ssp. seroi. It is also worth noting the importance of the rupicolous (vegetation associated with the crags) throughout the area. La Serrezuela is home to a large number of species of fauna, including the community of Lepidoptera and the presence of wildcat.
