Hontanar Refuge

The Hontanar refuge is a mountain hut located very close to the village of Carved cavesThe site is located on a rocky promontory on the top of the ravine formed by the Gallo riverin the left-hand margin.

It has roofed shelter where you can spend the night and a source of crystalline waters where we can refresh ourselves and recharge our supplies. It is also an ideal place that offers us a spectacular panoramic view of the confluences of the Tagus and Gallo rivers, of the Alpetea Castle and even that of the mouth of the river Arandilla on the Gallo.

It is a place of peace and tranquillity where you can enjoy the marvellous views of its spectacular landscapes, even the road to get here has numerous corners and wonders that are well worth contemplating, such as the spectacular juniper forests and the multitude of chouzons sabineros that dot these lands.

<< How to get there?

To access this refuge it is necessary to go to the locality of Cuevas LabradasOnce here, we have to head towards its church, where, just about to the end, we can see the in front of its tower We find a dirt track, which we have to take. The path from here is very easy, we will only have to keep going until we practically reach the rocky walls of the Gallo ravine, where we will find the Hontanar refuge.

We must say that the road reaches a point where it forks, we must take the detour to the right, as we will reach the refuge before, but we must know that if we take the detour to the left, we will arrive anyway, as this road, traces a circular route on this millstone, which, before, was within one of the official routes of the Natural ParkThe last stop on the route is the route of the viewpoints, which takes us to several panoramic views, being the last stop on the route, which transited this path, which leads us to the viewpoint of Las Molatillas.
