Rochafrida Castle

Situated above the urban centre of ,BetetaThe castle of Rochafrida or Rochafría, at an altitude of 1,300 metres, stands on a wall of black rock. It is of Arab origin and belonged to the Albornoz and Carrillo families and, for a time, to the Santiaguista master Don Enrique de Aragón, the Nigromántico.

During the 19th century, during the Carlist wars, its interior and defences were reformed, turning it into a powder magazine.

Now in ruins, it still preserves the foundations, the foundations, part of the keep and part of the moats.

A wall surrounded the town and had two gates: the Puerta de la Villa and the Puerta de la Cava. Today we can still see the remains of the walls and the arch of the gate.

It can be climbed on foot from Beteta, or by car along the road that leads to the castle itself. It is an interesting visit because it combines beautiful scenery with the architectural interest of the fortress.
