Horcajo Ravine

The Barranco del Horcajo is nothing more than a a narrow canyon dug into the limestone rock by the stream of the same name, where we find numerous botanical treasures more typical of northern latitudes, due to its special conditions of temperature and humidity.

Many of the ravines that are tributaries of the Tagus river are usually narrow, giving rise to beautiful gorges and gorges. Among them, the most outstanding is the Horcajo RavineThe route is a natural and scenic attraction, due to its abrupt walls and its landscape value. In addition to the limestone cliffs, which are the main attraction of this ravine, the route passes through mixed copses of lime and hazel accompanied by holly and yew trees.

It is also important for the local fauna, as the canyon walls are home to abundant nesting rock birds such as vultures, peregrine falcons, kestrels, golden eagles and solitary rock thrushes.

<< How to get there?

The most comfortable way to visit this beautiful ravine is by the official route 10 of the Alto Tagus. To do so, we have to drive our vehicle to the vicinity of the Martinete Bridgein the town of Peralejos de las Truchas. The sign for the start of the route we will find it 2 kilometres further upContinue along the road in the direction of the province of Cuenca, at a turning on the right.

Once at the turn-off, we leave our vehicle and follow the signs for the aforementioned route 10. Previously, the end of the route was to return by road those two kilometres, but recently, a path has been prepared so that we do not have to walk along the road and we can return through the interior of the pine forest to the same car park.
