Route from Canales de Molina to Peña Escrita

On the basis of Canales de Molina we have the opportunity to see one of those places that retain a certain touch of mystery. We are talking about the route from Canales de Molina to Peñaa EscritaThe site is home to some unique engravings, distributed in two different formations or places, around a stone shelter.

It is a linear route, but its short 3.5 kilometres and the comfort of the way up, allow us to make the round trip by the same route without any problem.

From Canales de Molina we have to take the dirt road which climbs up the hill, located on the side of the village opposite the road. It is a good road, which serves the farmers in the area and is usually well looked after, but it is better to walk along it than to drive on it without knowing how it is.

Once on the road, all that remains is to continue straight on, we will reach a crossroads where we turn left, from here, in 3 kilometres we will reach the turn-off that brings us closer to the Peña Escrita. It is marked at the beginning on a pine tree with blue paint, but the passage of time means that we have to look carefully to find it.

From here we walk along a small pass for 1.5 kilometres and we will soon see our destination. As we have already said, the way back is the same as the way out, we have to go back and retrace our steps.

Signposting and Start of the Route

The access to the route from Canales de Molina to Peña Escrita is not officially signposted at the start, but there are several stone cairns along the way that guide us. As for the detour to the Peña Escrita, as we have already mentioned, at the start there is a tree with some blue markings on its bark, and during the route up the pass, we see several blue arrows but they are very worn out due to the passage of time, so the best option is to unload the truck down here and we will avoid oversights, as it is not an easy place to access.
