Tobas Fountain

La Fuente de las Tobas is a tobacéa waterfall which is formed when the stream that flows through the Barranco de Despeñaborricos ravine discharges its waters directly into the Tagus RiverThis is another of the most spectacular waterfalls (if not the most spectacular) in the whole Natural Park, with its wildly rushing waters. It is probably one of the most beautiful postcards of the arrival of spring in the Upper Tagus, when the rains and snows of winter cause the flow to increase to its maximum levels, showing all its splendour, although it should be noted that this waterfall is permanent and although its flow decreases, it flows throughout the year.

As all lovers of the tuffas, we have to stress to the traveller and visitor the importance of using the infrastructures that we find in a correct way, here a viewpoint allows us to contemplate the Fuente de las Tobas, without having to step on and therefore erode the tuff, causing irreparable deterioration, and thus hindering the laborious task of the stream, in its constant process of forming new rocks.

In addition, in the immediate vicinity there is a recreational area which has a refuge for hikers who walk the GR-10 or GR-113where camping is only allowed on a touring basis.

Delving a little deeper into the landscape that surrounds the Tobas FountainIt should be noted that this is a real balcony where its waters free fall towards the Tagus, giving us a breathtaking view. But this is not the only thing that stands out about this stream, as the amount of sediment that these waters carry leaves us with a very characteristic image of the streams and wadis with their bottoms and banks completely sedimented and converted into a new bed.

Everything here is limestone rock, tuff in formation, that is, living rockThey are very delicate ecosystems that need our help to be preserved and to follow their evolution, the pools and dry beds are beautiful and are growing, let's avoid altering their cycle as little as possible. Enjoy the place and its views, and respect what you find here as its conservation is fundamental.

It is possible to dive in the well which is formed if the activity is carried out with one of the authorised companies in the area.

The Tobaceous waterfall of the Fuente de las Tobas is located at the track running parallel to the Tagus riveron the section running from the vicinity of Poveda de la Sierra, until Tobáceo del Campillo Buildingin Zaorejas. It is a long track on which we find many of the wonders of the Alto Tajo Natural Park and in which, in the vicinity of the Peñalén Bridge, and within its municipal boundaries, we find one of the most special, this waterfall, often forgotten but very much appreciated by the locals.
