Sarguillas Wadi

The Sarguilla Wadi, a tributary of the Hozseca, is a good representation of the different stretches of a calcareous Mediterranean mountain river, forming a fluvial landscape of great beauty which, due to its hydrological and morphological singularity, its high degree of naturalness and its good state of conservation, has been declared a River Nature Reserve and special care should be taken when visiting it.

The water has modelled, over limestone, marl and dolomite, a confined valley that opens up timidly in the last stretch, forming a narrow and discontinuous flood plain occupied by mowed fields and pastures. The bed of this unique mountain wadi is made up of gravel and, to a lesser extent, pebbles.

The strong seasonality combined with the lithology means that the high levels of xericity do not allow the establishment of riparian vegetation, so the margins are occupied by zonal vegetation, mainly pines (Pinus sylvestris), junipers (Juniperus communis), barberries (Berberis vulgaris), junipers (Juniperus sabina) and some hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna).

The fluvial system lacks pressures, threats or human alterations that modify its natural state, maintaining an excellent state of conservation. The Sarguillas Wadi is a perpetual treasure.

In the immediate vicinity, specifically at the Valdelacasa bridge across the Hoz Seca river (about 10 km from Czech), we find a panel at the beginning of the path that invites us to walk along part of this watercourse, its confluence with the aforementioned river and the Carangosto strait.

Another option to see part of its route is to continue along the road to an old grazing area, the Sarguillas grazing area, where we can practically cross its bed or walk along the upper part of its grandiose ravines, on the Modorra hill, until we reach, if we wish, the height of the Tornero CaveWe cross the Vasequilla and join the course of the river Hoz Seca.

Finally, we would like to remind you of the special value of this enclave, and advise you to visit it with knowledge, the Sarguillas Wadi is a reserve, so we should not expose it to dangerous factors. In the case of walking the paths, never leave the paths and always follow the available signposting, in this case in green, to avoid any disaster or accident that could endanger the incalculable natural value of this paradise.
