Mycology in La Sierra

Many mycology enthusiasts want to enjoy nature, learn about mushrooms and deepen their knowledge. The Alto Tajo is an ideal place for all those enthusiasts of the world of fungi and mushrooms, an activity that is becoming increasingly popular and rewarding. After the first rains of spring or autumn, our mountains and fields are filled with the precious treasures that year after year we impatiently await. Hundreds of different species can be found practically everywhere and in all kinds of habitats.

So if this is your hobby and you want to come and look for mushrooms in the Upper Tagus, one of the best areas to do it, (if not the best) is the highest part of the Natural Park, where its extensive pine forests, juniper forests, riparian forests, large rocky areas or any other more specific habitat such as peat bogs are ideal for the abundance of species. In the latter, the peat bogs have an extremely important environmental value and are very delicate. The specimens found here are extremely rare and delicate, so we recommend avoiding their degradation.

This enclosure, as its name indicates, belongs to the Mancomunidad de la Sierra. It allows us to regulated collection of mushrooms in the forests of the following municipalities:

The world of mycology is of great importance in all these villages, and it goes without saying that we must respect the regulations and comply with a series of good practices in nature that make our hobby compatible with the conservation of the environment. Many of us enjoy searching and identifying more than tasting our catches at the table. Any species, even without culinary value, is very important for the ecosystem where it is found, avoid breaking them or uprooting them unnecessarily, it is a living being, and as such, it deserves to be able to complete its cycle.
